Prescription Changes 2026

From February 2026, our practice will begin rolling out the new national prescription guidelines introduced by the Ministry of Health.

Under these updated rules, eligible patients may be able to receive up to 12 months of certain medications in a single prescription, depending on clinical suitability and safety requirements.

ADHD Assessment Information

From February 2026, national regulations may allow GPs and nurse practitioners to diagnose and initiate treatment for adult ADHD. While this is a positive change, Grey Lynn Family Medical Practice is not currently offering ADHD assessments or treatment, as we do not yet have clinicians trained in this area.

We are exploring whether this may be possible in the future, but at this stage there is no confirmed timeline. If offered, ADHD assessments would require long, comprehensive appointments (1–2 hours) and cannot be completed in a standard GP consultation.

Patients seeking an ADHD assessment are encouraged to book a GP appointment to discuss referral options, including psychiatrist telehealth services, which may allow faster access.
